Online Conference

The session that I chose was called "Creating a Self Correcting Quiz Using Google Forms".

1) The basic ideas of the session were that they talked about how to make a self correcting quiz by creating a spreadsheet using Google Forms. You first create a quiz that you will give to your students. Once you have typed out all of the questions, you type out formulas so that you can tell what students got what answer right or wrong by typing their names in. You would then go over to the color choices and pick red for wrong and green for right. You would paste the color formula to the cell so that when they answer the question, the color pops up on the answer sheet that you created and they will know if they got the question correct of not.

2) I can use this when I am a teacher by creating short quizzes on Google Forms about different physical education activities and sports. By having them do this online, I will be able to see how they did on the quiz, write their grade down in the grade book, and they will be able to see what questions they got correct and wrong right after they are done.

3)Some pros to this session are that students will be able to see their grade right away, it is nice to see what questions the students got wrong. For instance, if everyone got the same question wrong, this will tell me that I did not explain that well enough and I will not punish them for that. Some cons are that the formulas can be difficult at times. If the students do not have a computer at home or my students are not able to get into the computer lab that could be a problem.

Reflection on using technology

I could use podcasting to put onto my web page for students to listen to. I could also create a class wiki for my students to go onto to look at homework or to look at lesson plans. My students could create blog pages so that I could see their responses to different questions or to see what they have learned. By using moviemaker, my class could demonstrate different sports to do in a physical education class on their movie. I could create a scavenger hunt for the students to go through to learn more the history or general information about a sport.

There are alot of technologies that I have learned about that I can use in my classes. I have learned alot and I am more comfortable using the computer. I did not know that there were that many different types of technologies out there that teachers could use. I will use a number of these technologies that most physical education classes would never use.

Podcasting

1) Podcasting is the process of using audio files to deliver a message onto a website where people can listen to what you have to say.

2) As a teacher, I could record my voice and put it on my web page. The studnets could go to the page and listen to their homework if they forgot to write it in their planner or were absent.

3) Some pros to podcasting are:You can give students homework to put on to your web page, students can record their voices to see what they have learned, and its a different activity for them to do that is letting them get practice with other technologies.

Some cons to podcasting are:Students could use their phones for non-academic purposes, and students could listen to the podcasts instead of going to class.

ethics

1)Ethics is the code of rules and conduct recognized in respect to particular actions or values. Such as the moral principles of an individual.

2)Ethics will affect my work as a teacher with the students and my colleagues because the code of ethics that I will have learned throughout the years leading up to teaching, will have a great impact on the students and colleagues surrounding me one day. A person's ethics will have a great impact on the people around you and you want those things to be positive.

3)Some pros and cons of being concerned with ethics are:
If the rules and guidelines are clear cut then students will know what to expect and there will be less of students getting into trouble, hopefully. If the rules and guidelines are not clear cut and the students do not recognize what is wrong or right, then you will have some problems. Another problem could start right from the beginning of your career. A con could be if the teacher is still in the student mindset. The teacher is now a teacher and needs to act like a teacher and not a student. If you are messing around with your students like a kid would do, you could get into trouble for being inappropriate.

virtual tours

1)A Virtual Tour is a simulation of an existing location, usually composed of a sequence of video images. They also may use other multimedia elements such as sound effects, music, narration, and text.

2)I could use virtual tours to show kids different equipment or the different areas that they will be able to use during physical education. By showing them the equipment room, different exercises in the weightroom, they can start to create their own ideas of what they would like to do during the class.

3)A pro can be to make a classroom of children to travel the world from their classroom desks. This is a pro because it saves alot of money for the school, especially compaired to field trips and transportation.
A con would be that by doing a virtual tour, the class is just sitting at their desks where they could be moving around and actually experiencing it. Everyone always says it is always better to see in person.

teacher web pages

1)A teacher webpage is a web page for a teacher designed for the students and parents to go onto, to see lesson plans, pictures of class, an any other class topic that the teacher wishes to put on.

2)When I teach, I will use a teacher webpage to keep the students up to date on afterschool activities such as intramurals, ways for students to stay healthy, and games and activities that they will be doing. I will also use my webpage to let students know what they have missed if they are absent from school.

3)There are both pros and cons to using a teacher webpage. Some pros are that it keeps kids and parents up-to-date on what they are doing and is a great way to keep everyone on the same page. Another pro is that it will let students see notes that they have missed, and the page could also let the students see the valuable information about the topics that they will be covering so that they can prepare for it. Some cons is that you have to update them for the students and parents, and some webpages can be confusing for the students to read.

WebQuest

1) A WebQuest is an inquiry-oriented lesson format in which most or all the information that learners work with comes from the web. These can be created using various programs, including a simple word processing document that includes links to websites. the first part of the WebQuest is the introduction. the second is the task. third is the process. forth is the resources fifth is evaluation, and the sixth part is the conclusion.

2) I will use a WebQuest to discuss a unit such as soccer or football. I will use the six steps to developing a WebQuest and since the students will not have computers in the gym, I will have them read it for homework and base my tests and quizzes off of the information that I put in the WebQuest.

3) Some pros to WebQuest are :
It helps introduce students to units by presenting necessary background and determining students' prior knowledge.
WebQuests also create opportunities to provide this background.
The students are so used to doing everything on the computer anyways. They will become familiar with this very easily.

Some cons to WebQuest are:
WebQuests encourage students to find the quickest answer rather than the best one.
They must finish the quest and can lose sight of the best means to gather quality information.
Students can become wrapped up in the quest itself and become more interested in simply finishing.

Use of Technology in Education

In today's society, teachers in schools use some sort of technology in their classes. Most schools have computers and some of the school districts in wealthier communities are starting to purchase smart boards. Technology is a fast and easy way to get work done compaired to years ago where schools did not have these resources. Teachers can now print out notes or use a smart boards during classes so students can see their notes instead of writing them out during class. By having technology, students can now paying attention to what the teacher is saying and get their homework done faster.
